The Hunger Games- Book 1 Project ♥

I am going to talk about three items that will draw people to the book 'The Hunger Games'. (:

·         The poisonous berries are either the end for some tributes, or the beginning. Katniss and Peeta risk their lives with these berries at the end in order to live. Within a minute of eating them, you die. They are very deadly and hard to distinguish if you are not an expert in berries.

·         Example:  “I spread out my fingers, and the dark berries glisten in the sun. I give Peeta's hand one last squeeze as a signal, as a good-bye, and we begin counting. "One." Maybe I'm wrong. "Two." Maybe they don't care if we both die. "Three!" It's too late to change my mind. I lift my hand to my mouth, taking one last look at the world. The berries have just passed my lips when the trumpets begin to blare” (Collins, 25, 93).

·         The berries symbolize death and living. People who haven’t read this book will not understand them. The idea of using real berries as ‘poisonous’ will entice the audience and make them want to read more about how the berries can be both a factor of death and living. This will draw people who like action books, death.

·         Picture

o   The parachute is a sign of hope, fate, and belief that the tribute must fight on. It helps them with necessary items to survive, kindly provided by their sponsors. The only question is: what will you be sent? The parachute has saved Peeta and Katniss’ lives many times throughout their adventure in the hunger games arena.

o   Example: “I open the parachute and find a small loaf of bread. It's not the fine white Capitol stuff. It's made of dark ration grain and shaped in a crescent. Sprinkled with seeds. I flash back to Peeta's lesson on the various district breads in the Training Center. This bread came from District 11. I cautiously lift the still warm loaf. What must it have cost the people of District 11 who can't even feed themselves? How many would've had to do without to scrape up a coin to put in the collection for this one loaf?” (Collins, 48).

o   The parachute symbolizes hope in the novel because once a tribute gets a hold of one, they always find something beneficiary inside to help them out in the games. The audience wouldn’t understand this example unless having read the book. It will draw people who are into books with fast getaways, action, and mystery. It will intrigue people because they will wonder what is inside of the parachutes.

§  The night vision glasses provide the tribute with the ability to see perfectly in the night time. Especially when they are running in the forests, and other tributes may be lurking around-ready to kill you. They are a luxury in the woods because you are aware of every little physical detail around you when you put them on.

§  Example: “Rue also sees the sunglasses that Katniss had in her pack and shows her how to use them: they're actually night vision glasses” (Collins, 54).

§  These night vision glasses will intrigue those who want to read about action and interesting devices. People will want to find out more about these ‘night vision glasses’ and how they are used in this book. They symbolize the tributes having this luxury and being able to be alert at all times-even at night.

What is a Book? ♥

A book is a getaway. Its a quick vacation that you can take at anytime. You can forget about yourself and everyone around you by just reading. On a vacation you can also forget about yourself and everyone around you and it's just peaceful.
I agree with Nancy Jo Sales' definition of a book and how books are better than electronic devices. I don't really hate any of the other people's definitions, i may even agree with them, but not as much as i did with Nancy's. One person i think i disagree with the most is Tom Piazza, because he seemed too modern and full of everything that is happening and his own books. I don't know. Nothing will ever be the same for me as an actual book. I need to be able to flip the pages and hold a book. There doesn't need to be a reason why. I think everything can be 'magical' if you believe it is. So yes, it doesn't matter what i'm reading a book on, it will or will not be magical (only depending on the book itself, not the device).
Because i have more words that need to fill up this post, i will talk about something random. I love the smell of books...well not all books. But especially new, modern books that have that 'new book smell'. I may be the only one.
I don't really have a say on whether i like the kindle/iPad/eBook versions of reading because i've never really tried them out. I think if i had one, i'd definitely use it and enjoy it, but i'd still prefer books. I'm too lazy to go online and transfer the books to the device...i'd rather just go to the school library and pick out a book to read.

Why do I Read? ♥

I read because it helps me get out of my own world and thoughts for as long as I’d like, and I get to be someone else for a change. I get to fight battles, be in love, reach goals, be courageous, experiment and just have fun in my head. I enter a world where I can act out a character and am not afraid to be them. When I’m sad, angry, frustrated, bored, content, happy, or any emotion, I read. I visualize another world and another plot of events that I’m a part of.  I’m not just me, but I’m every character that I read. I become them and quietly steal their identities as I fly through the pages of a book. In a really great book, I sometimes forget who I am even after I’ve put the book down. That’s how I know if it has really struck a chord in my emotions and feelings. Books make me happy. They make me feel everything at once without having to do anything but read the words on the pages. In every book I am learning new things and going to new places. I am entering new adventures that I don’t want to leave, but have to at the end. Why do I read? Because it helps me go on with my life. J
